    As great and refreshing as this would be, the capacity is probably needed as train platforms but maybe they could retrofit an upper deck for the arboretum etc?? It already has 2 levels.........make the lower one for trains and the upper for the park.

Waterloo Arboretum Gardens

Repurpose an award-winning structure for butterfly conservation in the heart of London

When the Eurostar left Waterloo for St Pancras in 2007, it left behind an elegant piece of architecture and an incredible opportunity to create a unique piece of green infrastructure in the heart of London.

This proposal suggests using the RIBA award-winning structure at Waterloo to create a year-round arboretum and garden. Entering from Waterloo station, treetop walkways would weave through tree canopies to the train track vineyard. A Eurostar train café would sit between rows of grape vines, beyond which would be a sunset terrace.

A butterfly house would sit at the centre of the gardens. The grassy gardens and wildflowers would provide an ideal habitat for assisting in butterfly conservation under the shelter of this amazing canopy.

The temperate, sheltered gardens would maintain a moderately warm condition throughout the year and include trees and plants found along the existing Eurostar route and on down to the south of France. The gardens would be irrigated with rainwater collected from the station roof.
